Photo blog day 298, June 12, 2011

We went to out to Paxton, MA today for a birthday party and we drove through Monson and Brimfield to get there instead of taking the Mass Pike. This was my first trip out that way since the tornado hit. It doesn’t matter how many pictures I see or how many stories I hear, seeing the destruction firsthand is tragic. I cannot believe how much progress has already been made in the cleanup efforts. The number of people pitching in and helping. It will be years before we start to see some resemblance to the lush New England forests we are used to but it will be decades before the pain and loss of so many starts to dull.
