On my way home today I stopped at the Springfield Central Library (click for info) to pick up a book I had on hold. Yes, I still go to the library, often. As much as publishers will sneer at me, I prefer to borrow instead of buy. I rarely read a book more than once so why buy books and load my shelves with them when I have this wonderful resource nearby?  And better yet, if I’m in a hurry I don’t even have to spend time browsing the stacks to find what I want. I go online and select the publication I’m looking for, click “request” and a librarian will get the book for me and hold it at the front desk. Seriously, does it get any easier? Sorry, that was way off subject.

I have a view of the top of the library from where I work and I never noticed the dome. I walked into the library and looked up and felt like a complete fool. I never noticed the dome because it is covered by a second roof. Der.

When the library was built this “center court” was the crowning jewel on the building. The dome, always lit, has amber tinted glass and is just beautiful to stand underneath. I knew I wanted an image that would showcase the dome and the arches that lead to the surrounding wings. I stepped to the center of the room, pointed directly upwards, and pressed the shutter. The librarian looked over to see what I was doing and gave me a smile. As if to say, Thank you for appreciating what we have here.
