We put up our Christmas tree yesterday.  Usually the conversation at the tree farm goes something like this:

Husband: “This year we’re not getting a huge tree, ok??”

Me: “That’s fine as long as it’s big and fat and touches the ceiling.  And I want it to smell like Christmas”

this year: I felt like goldilocks, the trees were too tall, too skinny, too sparse, too fat and so on.  I asked for trees with “soft poofy needles” and as we rounded the corner we were presented with two trees and we immediately knew which one we wanted.  It was a record for us.  There was no arguments, no debating, no concern over the price.  It was like at the beginning of Chrismas Vacation with Chevy Chase when the family is walking through the field and Clark sees “The Tree” under a golden beam of light.  That’s how we felt.  It turned my festering grinch mood right around.

As we pulled out the child-safe ornaments I came across one of my favorites.  The Golden Nest.

It is legend that good luck comes to the household that has a nest among the branches of its Christmas tree. Within this glittery nest are cradled the gold eggs of prosperity.

This nest was given to my husband and I on our first Christmas as a married couple.  So far our life has been very blessed with health and love.  I put this decoration in our tree every year and say a quiet thank you for all that we have.

  1. What a beautiful ornament and sweet story! The photo is lovely and has inspired me to make some close-ups of my favorite ornaments.
