Dr. Seuss

Photo blog day 118, December 9, 2010

Oh how lucky I am to be near so many spectacular things.  A piece of so many childhood memories exists just a few blocks from downtown Springfield.  The house that Theodore Geisel (click here for Wikipedia) grew up in and concocted all those wonderful stories from still stands in all its glory on Mulberry Street.  I made my way to the “Seuss” house and up over the hill of State Street out to the Quadrangle where the Seuss Memorial Sculpture Garden is (click here for more info).  All the famous characters from Dr. Seuss’s books are there, Horton, Thing One and Thing Two, The Cat in the Hat and a few others.  Best of all is the Grinch and his faithful and somewhat abused companion, Max.  Here is a sampling of my tour today and please forgive the sloppy collage.  I just learned tonight how to put photos together in one collage and clearly need a little more practice!

An excerpt from”How the Grinch Stole Christmas”

Every Who
Down in Who-ville
Liked Christmas a lot…

But the Grinch,
Who lived just North of Who-ville,
Did NOT!

The Grinch hated Christmas! The whole Christmas season!
Now, please don’t ask why. No one quite knows the reason.
It could be that his head wasn’t screwed on quite right.
It could be, perhaps, that his shoes were too tight.
But I think that the most likely reason of all
May have been that his heart was two sizes too small.
